Six members turned out to visit the Elan Valley and witness the feeding of the Red Kites at the feeding centre just outside Ryhader on Sunday. We set off in 2 cars with Derek leading the expedition. After a brunch stop, we pulled over at several places en route where opportunities for photographs presented themselves. We headed from the lakes to the feeding centre to make sure that we were ensconced into the hides by 2.30 ready for the scheduled feeding at 3pm to start. In the distance we could see them hovering in wait. But after the food had been laid the skies erupted in colourful flashes as we estimated up to 150 birds swooped down and across in front of us no more than 40 yards away. After a brisk hour and a half or so, of trying to stop these beautiful birds in flight, film ran out, batteries went dead and arms became heavy. It was very good ecercise trying to pan to catch the one pic that would make the trip. As the daylight lowered the rain came in and we were thankfull of having the best of the day. It will be interesting to compare notes and look at those candid shots that we will all be surprised by. It was for me a great day out and should not be missed if you get the chance another time. Thanks for the organisation, thanks for inviting me and thanks for the friendship shown by all who were there, especially Phil and Debbie who chauffeured me around all day. I think we all had a great day.
